Environment

This ray-finned fish resides in the waters along the eastern coast of North and South America. It’s also referred to by other names such as Convict Fish, due to the distinctive black stripes on its silver-gray body, resembling an old-fashioned prisoner’s uniform. In terms of habitat, the Sheepshead prefers inshore environments around rock pilings, jetties, mangrove roots, and piers, as well as in tidal creeks.
